    From School Library Journal

K-Gr 1-Transition Math is a set of 32 activities that provide practice in visual discrimination, sequencing, telling time, identifying shapes, patterning and counting coins. Adult instruction is necessary before youngsters can begin using the program. Users must be skilled in using the click, drag, and release functions of the mouse. The clear and easy to follow instructions are stated in a cheerful and encouraging voice. Verbal praise is given along with the visual cues. Responses are graded--a smiling star for a correct answer and a red check for an incorrect response. Small shoes at the bottom of the screen keep track of activities successfully or unsuccessfully completed. When an incorrect response is given, youngsters have the opportunity to try again by clicking the red shoe at the bottom of the screen. Green shoes indicate those activities that have been successfully completed. After completing each activity, there is a graphic for celebration. After completing two exercises, users are rewarded with an animated game that has nothing to do with math skills. When the small printer icon on each page is pressed, the same page or a supplemental page using the same numbers will be printed. At any time, a certificate can be printed to show how many pages were attempted, how many were passed, and the percentage correct. All the activities are simply glorified worksheets. The reward games would be too difficult for the eye-hand-mouse click coordination of the younger users. The record keeping does not give teachers information about the skills with which youngsters are having problems. This program is best suited for home or home school use, or for use with more independent kindergartners in public schools. A supplementary purchase.-Lisa Radmer, North Bend Elementary School, WA
